The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
O THOU [in thy solitude] enfolded! 1 Rise up and warn! 2 and magnify the glory of your Lord, 3 And your garments purify! 4 And all abomination shun! 5 And bestow not favors that you may receive again with increase, 6 Exercise patience to please your Lord. 7 For when the trumpet blows 8 That shall be - that Day - a day hard. 9 Far from easy for those without Faith. 10 Leave Me (to deal) with him whom I created lonely, 11 and designated for him ample wealth, 12 and sons that stand in witness. 13 And I adjusted affairs for him adjustably; 14 Then he desires that I should add more. 15 Nay! For lo! he hath been stubborn to Our revelations. 16 Soon I shall mount him on Saood, the hill of fire. 17 Lo! He reflected, and determined -- 18 So let him be cursed! How he plotted! 19 Let him be destroyed. How he calculated! 20 Then he looked, 21 Then he frowned and scowled, 22 Then he turned back and was haughty; 23 And said, “This is nothing but magic learnt from earlier men.” 24 “This is nothing but the speech of a man.” 25 I will drive him into Saqar. 26 Would that you really knew what hell is! 27 It lets nothing remain and leaves nothing [unburned], 28 Burning the skins! 29 there are nineteen [angels] in charge of it -- 30 We have appointed only angels to be masters of the Fire, and their number We have appointed only as a trial for the unbelievers, that those who were given the Book may have certainty, and that those who believe may increase in belief, and that those who were given the Book and those who believe may not be in-doubt, and that those in whose hearts there is sickness, and the unbelievers, may say, 'What did God intend by this as a similitude?' So God leads astray whomsoever He will, and He guides whomsoever He will; and none knows the hosts of thy Lord but He. And it is naught but a Reminder to mortals. 31
