A (goodly) number from those of old, 39 And a company of the later peoples. 40 And the fellows on the left hand; how miserable shall the fellows on the left hand be! 41 [They will be] in scorching fire and scalding water 42 And in the shades of Black Smoke: 43 Neither cool nor pleasant. 44 For, behold, in times gone by they were wont to abandon themselves wholly to the pursuit of pleasures, 45 And were persisting in great sin (joining partners in worship along with Allah, committing murders and other crimes, etc.) 46 and would say: "What! After we have died and become mere dust and bones, shall we, forsooth, be raised from the dead? 47 “And also our forefathers?” 48 Say (O Muhammad SAW): "(Yes) verily, those of old, and those of later times. 49 shall all be brought together on an appointed Day. 50 "Then will ye truly,- O ye that go wrong, and treat (Truth) as Falsehood!- 51 you will indeed have to taste of the tree of deadly fruit, 52 and you shall fill therewith your bellies 53 Then drink over it of boiling water; 54 You shall drink it as the thirsty camels drink." 55 Such will be their welcome on Judgment Day! 56 It is He who created you, then why do you not affirm the truth? 57 Have you considered the seed? 58 Is it you who create it - or are We the source of its creation? 59 It is We who have ordained death for all of you; and We cannot be prevented 60 That We may substitute others like unto you and produce you into that which ye know not. 61 You have surely known of the first creation. Why then, will you not remember! 62 Just ponder over what you sow: 63 Do you make it grow or is it We who make it grow? 64 If We pleased, We should have certainly made it broken down into pieces, then would you begin to lament: 65 (Saying), "We are indeed left with debts (for nothing): 66 nay, we have been robbed!' 67 Tell Me! The water that you drink. 68 Is it you who cause it from the rainclouds to come down, or are We the Causer of it to come down? 69 If We pleased, We would have made it salty; why do you not then give thanks? 70 Have ye observed the fire which ye strike out; 71 Is it you who grew its tree, or is it We Who create? 72 We have made it as a reminder of hell and as a utility for travellers in the jungle. 73 Therefor (O Muhammad), praise the name of thy Lord, the Tremendous. 74
