The Hijjr Valley (Al-Hijjr)
99 verses, revealed in Mecca after Joseph (Yousuf) before Animals (Al-An 'aam)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
۞ AlifLaamRa. Those are the verses of the Book, the Clear Koran. 1 How strongly the unbelievers will wish that they had been Muslims. 2 Leave them to eat and enjoy, and let them be preoccupied with (false) hope. They will come to know! 3 We have never destroyed a township without a definite decree having been issued; 4 Neither can a people anticipate its term, nor delay it. 5 And they say: O you to whom the Reminder has been revealed! you are most surely insane: 6 Why bringest thou not angels unto us if thou art of the truthtellers! 7 But then We never send the angels down save with the purpose (of enforcing their doom), after which they will not be given more respite. 8 Verily We! it is We who have revealed the admonition, and verily We are the guardians thereof. 9 AND, INDEED, [O Prophet,] even before thy time did We send [Our apostles] unto communities of old 10 But never once an apostle came to them at whom they did not scoff. 11 Thus do We let it (polytheism and disbelief) enter into the hearts of the Mujrimun [criminals, polytheists, pagans, etc. (because of their mockery at the Messengers)]. 12 So, they will not believe in it: The example of former people is there. 13 Yet even had We opened to them a gateway to heaven and they had ascended, on and on, up to it, 14 yet would they say, 'Our eyes have been dazzled; nay, we are a people bewitched!' 15

قراءة القرآن مترجماً إلى الإنجليزية أو أية لغة أخرى أشبه بقراءة كتب التفسير من قراءة ترجمات حرفية.
Reading the Quran translated into English, or any other language, is more like reading books of interpretation than reading literal translations.
