Al-Balad
The Town (Al-Balad)
20 verses, revealed in Mecca after Q (Qaaf) before The Comet (Al-Taareq)
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
۞ I do call to witness this City;- 1 and you are a lodger in this country. 2 and [I call to witness] parent and offspring: 3 Assuredly We have created man in trouble. 4 Deemest he that none will overpower him? 5 He says, "I have spent wealth in abundance." 6 Deemest he that none beholdeth him? 7 Did We not grant him two eyes, 8 And a tongue and a pair of lips? 9 And shown unto him the two highways? 10 But he hath not attempted the Ascent - 11 And what have you understood, what the valley is! 12 It is freeing the neck, 13 Or the giving of food in a day of privation 14 To the orphan with claims of relationship, 15 or a needy man in misery; 16 and being, withal, of those who have attained to faith, and who enjoin upon one another patience in adversity, and enjoin upon one another compassion. 17 Those who do so are the people of the right hand, 18 And those who disbelieve Our signs - they are the fellows of the lefthand. 19 and the Fire will close in on them. 20
True are the words of God the Almighty.
