The Embryo (Al-Alaq)
19 verses, revealed in Mecca. First revelation of the Quran before The Pen (Al-Qalam)
In the name of Allah, the Merciful, the Compassionate
Read with the name of your Lord Who created, 1 created man out of a germ-cell 2 Read! And your Lord is the Most Generous, 3 Who teacheth by the pen, 4 The One Who taught man all what he did not know. 5 Nay, surely man transgresses; 6 Because he sees himself free from want. 7 truly, all will return to your Lord. 8 Have you seen him who restrains 9 a servant (of Allah) when he prays? 10 Have you thought, if he had been on guidance 11 or if he commands others to maintain piety!? 12 Seest thou if he denies (Truth) and turns away? 13 Does he, then, not know that God sees [all]? 14 Nay, if he desist not, We shall most surely drag him down upon his forehead 15 his lying, sinful forelock. 16 So let him now call his gang! 17 We shall call on the guards of Hell. 18 No, not at all. Never obey him. But prostrate yourself and become nigh (to your Lord). ۩ 19
True are the words of Allah the Almighty.
