The News (Al-Naba')
40 verses, revealed in Mecca after The Heights (Al-Ma'aarej) before The Snatchers (Al-Naze'aat)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
۞ What are they asking (one another)? 1 Of the mighty Announcement, 2 Concerning which they are in disagreement. 3 No indeed; soon will they come to know; 4 Then, no! They are going to know. 5 Have We not made the earth as a cradle 6 and fixed the mountains like pegs, 7 We created you in pairs, 8 And made your sleep a rest. 9 and We appointed night for a garment, 10 and made the day [a symbol of] life. 11 We raised over you several secure (skies), 12 And We made a shining lamp, 13 and sent down heavy rains from the clouds 14 That We may bring forth thereby corn and herbs, 15 And dense gardens. 16 Indeed, the Day of Judgement is an appointed time - 17 The Day when the Trumpet will be blown, and you shall come forth in crowds (groups); 18 And the heaven is opened and will become gateways 19 and when the mountains are made to vanish as if they had been a mirage. 20 Surely, Hell lies in wait, 21 For the transgressors a place of destination: 22 for the rebellious ones and they will live therein for ages. 23 tasting neither coolness nor any drink 24 Save scalding water and corruption. 25 An exact recompense (according to their evil crimes). 26 for they never expected to be called to account, 27 And denied Our verses with [emphatic] denial. 28 And everything have We recorded in a Book. 29 'Taste! We shall increase you not save in chastisement.' 30
