He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ HE FROWNED AND turned away, 1 Because the blind man had come in his august presence. 2 How could you know? Perhaps he would cleanse himself, 3 or take heed and derive benefit from [Our] warning? 4 Now as for him who believes himself to be self-sufficient 5 to him thou attendest 6 Whereas it is not on thee that he is not cleansed. 7 And he who comes to thee eagerly 8 And he feareth 9 of him you were unmindful. 10 By no means! Verily it is an admonition. 11 so let those who want to follow its guidance do so. 12 On honourable pages. 13 Exalted, pure. 14 by the hands of scribes 15 Honourable and Pious and Just. 16 [But only too often] man destroys himself: how stubbornly does he deny the truth! 17 Of what thing did He create him? 18 He created him from a living germ. He determined his fate 19 Then eased the way for him. 20 Then He causes him to die, and puts him in his grave; 21 Then, when He will, He bringeth him again to life. 22 Nay, but (man) has not done what He commanded him. 23 Let man reflect on the food he eats. 24 How We pour water in showers 25 then We split the earth in fissures 26 and thereupon We cause grain to grow out of it, 27 together with grapes and vegetables, 28 and olives and palms, 29 and burgeoning enclosed gardens 30 and fruits and herbage, 31 as provision for you and for your cattle to enjoy. 32 But when the Shout cometh 33 upon the day when a man shall flee from his brother, 34 and his mother and his father; 35 And from his wife and sons. 36 Everyone on that Day will have affairs to keep him occupied. 37 on that Day some faces will be beaming, 38 laughing and joyful, 39 Some faces on that Day shall be dust-ridden, 40 Covered with the blackness (of shame): 41 These are they who are unbelievers, the wicked. 42
