He Frowned ('Abasa)
42 verses, revealed in Mecca after The Stars (Al-Najm) before Destiny (Al-Qadr)
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
۞ The Prophet frowned and turned away 1 Because there came to him the blind man (i.e. 'Abdullah bin Umm-Maktum, who came to the Prophet (Peace be upon him) while he was preaching to one or some of the Quraish chiefs). 2 And what do you know, he may be of the pure! 3 Or become reminded so that the reminder should profit him? 4 But the self-sufficient, 5 to him didst thou give thy whole attention, 6 And not upon you [is any blame] if he will not be purified. 7 As for him who comes to you striving (after goodness), 8 And is afraid (of Allah and His Punishment), 9 you ignore him. 10 Assuredly this is a reminder 11 Let him who will, pay heed to it. 12 In honored books, 13 Exalted, purified, 14 In the hands of scribes 15 Honourable and Virtuous. 16 Perish the human! How unthankful he is! 17 From what has God created him? 18 From a drop of seed. He createth him and proportioneth him, 19 Then He eased the way for him; 20 Then He causes him to die and be buried. 21 Then He will raise him up again when He please. 22 No indeed! Man has not accomplished His bidding. 23 Then let man look to his food, 24 We send down abundant water, 25 and split the earth, splitting, 26 and therein made the grains to grow 27 and grape vines and vegetables, 28 And olive-trees and palm-trees 29 And gardens of dense shrubbery 30 and fruits, and pastures, 31 Provision for you and your cattle. 32 At length, when there comes the Deafening Noise,- 33 That Day shall a man flee from his own brother, 34 And from his mother and his father, 35 And his wife and his children, 36 on that Day each will be occupied with his own business, making him oblivious of all save himself. 37 Some faces on that day shall shine 38 laughing, and rejoicing, 39 And other faces, on that day, with dust upon them, 40 with darkness overspread: 41 those will be ones who denied the truth and were immersed in iniquity. 42
Almighty Allah's Truth.
End of Surah: He Frowned ('Abasa). Sent down in Mecca after The Stars (Al-Najm) before Destiny (Al-Qadr)
