He Frowned ('Abasa)
Allah - beginning with the name of - the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
۞ HE FROWNED AND turned away, 1 from a blind man who had come up to him. 2 And what would make you know that he would purify himself, 3 or receive some (Quranic) advice which would benefit him. 4 As for him who considers himself free from need (of you), 5 To him dost thou attend; 6 And no blame is on you if he would not purify himself 7 As for the one who comes to you earnestly (striving for guidance). 8 And is also fearful (of God), 9 Of him you are neglectful and divert your attention to another, 10 Nay, (do not do like this), indeed it (these Verses of this Quran) are an admonition, 11 So whoever wishes may remember it. 12 (This Quran) is also recorded in honorable books, 13 Exalted, purified, 14 [borne] by the hands of messengers 15 Honourable and obedient. 16 Woe to man! What hath made him reject Allah; 17 Of what [stuff] has He created him? 18 He created him from a living germ. He determined his fate 19 and then made the course of life easy for him, 20 Then He caused him to die and made him to be buried. 21 Then when He pleases, He will bring him back to life. 22 Nay; but he has not done what He bade him. 23 Let man look at his food: 24 That We watered it in abundance. 25 Then We broke open the earth, splitting [it with sprouts], 26 And cause the grain to grow therein 27 And grapes and clover plants (i.e. green fodder for the cattle), 28 and olives, and palms, 29 thickly planted gardens, 30 And fruits and herbage: 31 A provision for you and your cattle. 32 And when the Blast shall sound, 33 That Day shall a man flee from his brother, 34 his mother, his father, 35 And from his wife and his children. 36 Every man that day will have concern enough to make him heedless (of others). 37 on that Day some faces will be beaming, 38 Laughing, rejoicing. 39 And [other] faces, that Day, will have upon them dust. 40 Darkness shall cover them. 41 It is they, the disbelievers, the sinners. 42
