The Moon (Al-Qamar)
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
The Hour has come near, and the moon has split [in two]. 1 And if they see a sign, they turn away, and say: "This is continuous magic." 2 They deny the truth and follow their own whims, every matter has its appointed time, 3 Tidings containing a deterrent have come to them 4 Consummate wisdom-- but warnings do not avail; 5 Wherefore withdrew thou from them. The Day whereon the summoner will summon mankind unto a thing unpleasant. 6 their eyes will be humbled as they come out from their graves as if they were scattered locusts, 7 Racing ahead toward the Caller. The disbelievers will say, "This is a difficult Day." 8 ۞ The people of Noah cried lies before them; they cried lies to Our servant, and said, 'A man possessed!' And he was rejected. 9 Then he invoked his Lord (saying): "I have been overcome, so help (me)!" 10 And so We caused the gates of heaven to open with water pouring down in torrents, 11 And We caused the earth to gush forth with springs, so the waters met (and rose) to the extent decreed. 12 But We bore him on an (Ark) made of broad planks and caulked with palm-fibre: 13 Sailing in front of Our sight; as a reward for the sake of one who was rejected. 14 And We left it for a sign. Is there any that will remember? 15 And how [severe] were My punishment and warning. 16 We have made the Quran easy to understand, but is there anyone who would pay attention? 17 The 'Ad (people) (too) rejected (Truth): then how terrible was My Penalty and My Warning? 18 We indeed sent towards them a severe windstorm, on a day the ill luck of which lasted upon them forever. 19 It swept people away as if they were trunks of uprooted palm trees. 20 And how [severe] were My punishment and warning. 21 We have made it easy to learn lessons from the Quran: is there anyone who would receive admonition? 22
