The Stars (Al-Najm)
In the Name of Allah, the Merciful, the Most Merciful
By the star when it setteth. 1 your companion has neither strayed nor is he misguided, 2 nor does he speak out of his own desire. 3 It is but a divine revelation, which is revealed to him. 4 He was taught by one Mighty in Power, 5 One strong of make. Then he stood straight. 6 while he was in the highest horizon; 7 Then he approached and descended 8 two bows' length away, or nearer, 9 So did (Allah) convey the Inspiration to His slave [Muhammad SAW through Jibrael (Gabriel)]. 10 His heart added no untruth to what he saw. 11 Will you then argue with him about what he saw? 12 Indeed, he saw him in another descent 13 By the lote-tree of the utmost boundary, 14 Nigh thereto is the Garden of Abode. 15 When that which shroudeth did enshroud the lote-tree, 16 his eyes did not swerve, nor did they stray 17 He saw some of the greatest signs of his Lord. 18 Have you really considered al-Lat and al-"Uzza, 19 And another, the third (goddess), Manat? 20 What, have you males, and He females? 21 This is an unfair distinction! 22 These are nothing but names which ye have devised,- ye and your fathers,- for which Allah has sent down no authority (whatever). They follow nothing but conjecture and what their own souls desire!- Even though there has already come to them Guidance from their Lord! 23 Or shall man have whatever he fancies? 24 To Allah belongs the Eternal life and the first life. 25
