So exhort (them, O Prophet), for by your Lord's Grace, you are neither a soothsayer nor a madman. 29 If they say, "He is but a poet; we are waiting for some misfortune to befall him," 30 Say thou: wait verily I am, with you, among the waiters. 31 Is this what their senses tell them, or are they a rebellious people? 32 Or do they say, "He fabricated the (Message)"? Nay, they have no faith! 33 Let them then produce a recital like unto it,- If (it be) they speak the truth! 34 Or were they created by nothing, or were they the creators [of themselves]? 35 Have they created the heavens and the earth? In fact, they have no strong faith. 36 Do they possess the treasures of your Lord? Or are they the treasurers? 37 Or, do they have a ladder on which they listen? Then let any of them that has listened bring a clear authority. 38 Or, has He daughters, and they sons? 39 Or, do you ask them for a wage, so that they become weighed down in debt? 40 Or that the Unseen in it their hands, and they write it down? 41 Or are they contriving a stratagem against you? If so, that stratagem will rebound against the unbelievers. 42 Do they have another god besides God? God is too exalted to be considered equal to the idols. 43 And were they to see a portion of the sky falling, they will say, “It is a heap of clouds.” 44 Hence, leave them alone until they face that [Judgment] Day of theirs, when they will be stricken with terror: 45 The Day when their plotting shall not avail them at all nor will they be helped (i.e. they will receive their torment in Hell). 46 And verily, for those who do wrong, there is another punishment (i.e. the torment in this world and in their graves) before this, but most of them know not.
