۞ (And it is said unto the angels): Assemble those who did wrong, together with their wives and what they used to worship 22 Beside Allah, and lead them on to the path of the Flaming Fire. 23 And stop them, for they shall be questioned: 24 "What is the matter with you that you do not help each other?" 25 Nay, but that day they shall submit (to Judgment); 26 And some of them draw near unto others, mutually questioning. 27 They will say: "It was ye who used to come to us from the right hand (of power and authority)!" 28 But they reply: 'Rather, you were not believers. 29 "Nor had we any authority over you. Nay, it was ye who were a people in obstinate rebellion! 30 The statement of Our Lord is realized against us, and we are tasting it, 31 So we led you astray, for we ourselves were erring. 32 And verily, on that Day they all will share in their common suffering. 33 Even so We do with the sinners; 34 For they, when they were told that there is no god except Allah, would puff themselves up with Pride, 35 saying, 'What, shall we forsake our gods for a poet possessed?' 36 Rather, the Prophet has come with the truth and confirmed the [previous] messengers. 37 “You surely have to taste the painful punishment.” 38 And be rewarded but only for what you had done, 39 Except the chosen creatures of God, 40 For them is a Sustenance determined, 41 as the fruits [of their life on earth]; and honoured shall they be 42 In gardens of delight, 43 On couches facing one another; 44 a cup from a spring being passed round to them, 45 white, a delight to the drinkers, 46 Neither does it intoxicate, nor give a headache. 47 With them will be spouses, modest of gaze and beautiful of eye, 48 As if they were eggs carefully protected. 49 And they will all turn to one another, asking each other [about their past lives]. 50 One of them will say: “I had a companion in the world 51 who used to ask, 'Do you really believe that 52 ‘That when we are dead and have turned into dust and bones, that we will either be rewarded or punished?’ 53 Then he will say, "Shall we look for him?" 54 Then he will look down and see him in the midst of the Flaming Fire. 55 and says: "By God! Verily, thou hast almost destroyed me [too, O my erstwhile companion] 56 “And were it not for the munificence of my Lord, I too would have been seized and brought forth (captive)!” 57 Are we not then to die 58 except our first death, and shall we not be punished' 59 “This is, most certainly, the supreme success.” 60 for the like of this let the workers work.' 61 Is this better as an entertainment or the tree of Zaqqum? 62 Lo! We have appointed it a torment for wrong-doers. 63 For it is a tree that springs out of the bottom of Hell-Fire: 64 Its emerging fruit as if it was heads of the devils. 65 Truly they will eat thereof and fill their bellies therewith. 66 Then on top of that they will be given a mixture made of boiling water. 67 then surely they shall return to Hell. 68 Verily they found their fathers gone astray. 69 and they are running in their footsteps. 70 Before them erred most of the ancients, 71 though We had sent warners among them. 72 Then see what was the end of those who were warned (but heeded not). 73 Save the bondmen of Allah sincere. 74
