In the Name of Allah, the Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful
O you who have wrapped up in your garments! 1 Keep awake [in prayer] at night, all but a small part 2 It may be half the night or a little less than that 3 Or add (a little) thereto - and chant the Qur'an in measure, 4 Behold, We shall cast upon thee a weighty word; 5 Verily, the rising by night (for Tahajjud prayer) is very hard and most potent and good for governing (the soul), and most suitable for (understanding) the Word (of Allah). 6 Indeed you have a lot of matters during the day. 7 Remember the name of your Lord, and devote yourself to Him wholeheartedly. 8 Lord of the East and Lord of the West – there is no God except Him, therefore make Him your sole Trustee of affairs. 9 And bear thou with patience whatsoever they say, and depart from them with a becoming departure. 10 Leave the prosperous disbelievers to Me and give them respite for a little while; 11 We have prepared for them fetters, flaming fire, 12 And a Food that chokes, and a Penalty Grievous. 13 On the Day when the earth and the mountains will be in violent shake, and the mountains will be a heap of sand poured out and flowing down. 14 We have sent a messenger who is a witness over you, just as We sent a messenger to Pharoah before you. 15 But Firon disobeyed the apostle, so We laid on him a violent hold. 16 How then, if you disbelieve, will you preserve yourselves on the day which will even turn the children hoary? 17 The heaven shall rend asunder thereby; His promise is ever brought to fulfillment. 18 Verily, this is an admonition, therefore whosoever will, let him take a Path to His Lord! 19
