He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ He frowned and turned away. 1 Because there came to him the blind man (interrupting). 2 But what could tell thee but that perchance he might grow (in spiritual understanding)?- 3 or he might be mindful and good counsel might avail him. 4 Now he who waxes indifferent, 5 to him thou attendest 6 Though it is not your concern if he should not grow (in fulness). 7 And as to him who comes to you striving hard, 8 and in awe of God 9 of him you were unmindful. 10 Not this way – this is the advice. 11 and so, whoever is willing may remember Him 12 It is set down on honoured pages, 13 Exalted and holy, 14 by the hands of the noble, virtuous, 15 Honourable and Virtuous. 16 Perish Man! How unthankful he is! 17 From what thing did He create him? 18 Of a sperm-drop He created him, and determined him, 19 Then made his passage easy (at birth); 20 and in the end He causes him to die and brings him to the grave; 21 then, He will raise him when He wills. 22 Certainly, he has not duly fulfilled His commands. 23 So man must look at his food. 24 We send down abundant water, 25 and then We cleaved the earth asunder. 26 to yield therein corn, 27 And grapes and clover plants (i.e. green fodder for the cattle), 28 And olives and date-palms, 29 And enclosed Gardens, dense with lofty trees, 30 And fruits and fodder,- 31 Provision for you and your cattle. 32 When the trumpet sounds, 33 That Day shall a man flee from his brother, 34 Mother and father, 35 And his spouse and his son-- 36 Each man will have enough cares that day. 37 Some faces on that Day shall be beaming with happiness, 38 Laughing, rejoicing. 39 And many a face will be covered with dust on that day. 40 Covered with the blackness (of shame): 41 These will be the faces of the sinful disbelievers. 42
