The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
In the name of Allah, the Merciful, the Compassionate
O you who are clothed! 1 stand up, deliver your warning, 2 And your Lord do magnify, 3 And thine inner self purify! 4 and flee from the statues! 5 And do not favour others in order to receive more. 6 But for your Lord be patient. 7 And when the trumpet is blown, 8 That will be- that Day - a Day of Distress,- 9 and it will not be easy for the unbelievers. 10 Leave Me alone with he whom I created 11 And then granted him resources in abundance. 12 and sons to be by his side, 13 And made several preparations for him. 14 yet he is eager that I increase him. 15 Never will he receive more. He has been hostile to Our revelations. 16 I shall inflict on him hardship, 17 Behold, [when Our messages are conveyed to one who is bent on denying the truth,] he reflects and meditates [as to how to disprove them] 18 But may he be cursed how he plotted; 19 Let him be destroyed. How he calculated! 20 Then he considered [again]; 21 Then frowned he and showed displeasure. 22 then he retreated and grew proud 23 and said: 'This is no more than traced sorcery; 24 'this is nothing but mortal speech.' 25 I will cast him into the fire of Hell. 26 And what knoweth thou that which the Scorching Fire? 27 It neither spares, nor releases, 28 making [all truth] visible to mortal man. 29 Over it are appointed nineteen. 30 We have appointed none but angels as the keepers of the Fire, and We have not made their number but as a trial for the unbelievers so that those who have been endowed with the Book will be convinced and the believers' faith will increase, and neither those who have been endowed with the Book nor the believers will fall into any doubt. As for those in whose hearts there is a sickness as well as the unbelievers, they will say: “What did Allah aim at by this strange parable?” Thus does Allah let whomsoever He pleases to go astray, and directs whomsoever He pleases to the Right Way. And none knows the hosts of your Lord but He. (And Hell has only been mentioned here) that people may take heed. 31
