The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
O thou shrouded in thy mantle, 1 Arise and warn! 2 Glorify your Lord, 3 And your clothing purify 4 And all defilement shun! 5 Do not give, thinking to gain greater 6 And for the sake of your Lord, be patient. 7 And [warn all men that] when the trumpet-call [of resurrection] is sounded, 8 Truly, that Day will be a Hard Day. 9 for the unbelievers not easy. 10 Let Me alone with him whom I created lonely. 11 and to whom I have granted resources in abundance, 12 and sons standing before him, 13 I made things smooth and easy for him, 14 And who yet coveteth that shall increase. 15 Nay! For lo! he hath been stubborn to Our revelations. 16 I will make a distressing punishment overtake him. 17 He planned and plotted. 18 and woe to him; how he plotted! 19 Then may he be destroyed [for] how he deliberated. 20 Then he looked round; 21 frowned and scowled; 22 and in the end he turns his back [on Our message,] and glories in his arrogance, 23 And said, “This is nothing but magic learnt from earlier men.” 24 this is nothing but the word of a mere mortal!” 25 I shall surely roast him in Sakar; 26 Would that you really knew what hell is! 27 It spares not, neither leaves alone 28 it scorches the skin; 29 Above it are nineteen guards. 30 We have appointed only angels to be masters of the Fire, and their number We have appointed only as a trial for the unbelievers, that those who were given the Book may have certainty, and that those who believe may increase in belief, and that those who were given the Book and those who believe may not be in-doubt, and that those in whose hearts there is sickness, and the unbelievers, may say, 'What did God intend by this as a similitude?' So God leads astray whomsoever He will, and He guides whomsoever He will; and none knows the hosts of thy Lord but He. And it is naught but a Reminder to mortals. 31
