The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
۞ When the Terror descends 1 Then will no (soul) entertain falsehood concerning its coming. 2 (a calamitous Event) that shall turn things upside down: 3 When the earth is shaken with a shaking [severe,] 4 And the hills are ground to powder 5 So that they will become floating dust particles. 6 And ye shall be sorted out into three classes. 7 Those of the right hand -- how (happy) will be those of the right hand! 8 And the Companions of the Left Hand,- what will be the Companions of the Left Hand? 9 And the forerunners, the forerunners - 10 It is they who are the close ones. 11 In the Gardens of Pleasure, 12 A multitude of those (foremost) will be from the first generations (who embraced Islam). 13 And a few of later ages, 14 On thrones woven [with ornament], 15 reclining upon them, facing one another [in love]. 16 Surrounded by immortal boys. 17 With cups, and jugs, and a glass from the flowing wine, 18 Whereby there shall be neither headiness nor will they be inebriated. 19 And fruits that they may like. 20 and the meat of any bird that they may desire; 21 And wide eyed houris 22 Like unto hidden pearls, 23 A reward for what they used to do. 24 No empty talk will they hear there, nor any call to sin, 25 Except the saying, “Peace, peace.” 26 The Companions of the Right (O Companions of the Right!) 27 They will live amid the thornless lot trees 28 And banana-trees (with fruits), one above another. 29 And extended shade, 30 And water everflowing. 31 And fruit in plenty 32 Neither out of reach nor yet forbidden, 33 They shall be on upraised couches, 34 and the noble maidens that We have created 35 and made them virgins, 36 Lovers, friends, 37 for those on the Right, 38
