The Sun (Al-Shams)
In the Name of Allah, the Merciful, the Most Merciful
By the sun and its morning brightness, 1 And by oath of the moon when it follows the sun 2 And by oath of the day when it reveals it 3 by the night when it covers the earth with darkness, 4 And by the heaven and Him Who built it; 5 And the earth and Him Who extended it, 6 And by oath of the soul and by oath of Him Who made it proper. 7 and imbued it with (the consciousness of) its evil and its piety: 8 He who purifies it will prosper, 9 And he will indeed fail who corrupts it. 10 In their presumptuous insolence the Thamud called the Truth a lie 11 When the most wicked man among them went forth (to kill the she-camel). 12 So the Noble Messenger of Allah said to them, “Stay away from the she camel of Allah, and from its turn to drink.” 13 But they belied him, and hamstrung her. So their Lord crushed them for their sin and leveled it (their village). 14 He does not fear the result (of their destruction). 15
