Overwhelming (Al-Ghaasheyah)
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
HAS THERE COME unto thee the tiding of the Overshadowing Event? 1 On that Day faces shall be humbled, 2 Labouring (hard in the worldly life by worshipping others besides Allah), weary (in the Hereafter with humility and disgrace). 3 They will suffer the heat of the blazing fire 4 Given water from the boiling spring to drink. 5 no food for them but cactus thorn 6 unfattening, unappeasing hunger. 7 (Other) faces on that day shall be happy, 8 Pleased with their striving,- 9 They will be in a lofty Garden 10 Wherein you shall not hear vain talk. 11 with a flowing spring, 12 Therein will be thrones raised high, 13 well arranged goblets, 14 And arranged carpets. 15 and carpets spread out. 16 Do they not then ponder how the clouds were formed; 17 how heaven was lifted up, 18 and on the mountains, how they are firmly set up, 19 And at the Earth, how it is spread out? 20 Therefore do remind, for you are only a reminder. 21 You do not have full control over them. 22 Other than him who turns his back and denies, 23 him will God cause to suffer the greatest suffering [in the life to come]: 24 Verily unto Us is their return. 25 Ours is surely then to reckon with them. 26
