The 'Ad (people) rejected the messengers. 123 when their brother Hud said unto them: "Will you not be conscious of God? 124 Lo! I am a faithful messenger unto you, 125 So keep your duty to Allah and obey me. 126 And I do not ask you for it any payment. My payment is only from the Lord of the worlds. 127 You construct monuments on every hill in vain, 128 and erect castles hoping that you will live forever. 129 and when you strike you strike like tyrants? 130 So fear Allah and obey me. 131 And fear He who provided you with that which you know, 132 "He has aided you with cattle and children. 133 and with gardens and springs. 134 Lo! I fear for you the retribution of an awful day. 135 They replied, "It makes no difference to us whether you preach or do not preach, 136 This [religion of ours] is none other than that to which our forebears clung, 137 and we are not going to be chastised [for adhering to it]!" 138 And they belied him; so We destroyed them. Verily herein is a sign, yet most of them are not believers. 139 And indeed your Lord – only He is the Almighty, the Most Merciful. 140
