The All Compassionate (Al-Rahman)
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
۞ The Beneficent 1 Hath taught the Qur'an. 2 He created the human 3 He taught him eloquent speech. 4 The sun and the moon follow a reckoning. 5 And the stars and trees prostrate. 6 And the Firmament has He raised high, and He has set up the Balance (of Justice), 7 so that you would maintain justice. 8 But observe the measure strictly, nor fall short thereof. 9 And He has set up the earth for all beings. 10 Therein is fruit and palms having sheathed clusters, 11 and grain growing tall on its stalks, and sweet-smelling plants. 12 Which, then, of your Sustainer's powers can you disavow? 13 He created man from sounding clay like unto pottery, 14 and has created the jinn from the flame of fire. 15 O which of your Lord's bounties will you and you deny? 16 Lord of the East and Lord of the West. 17 Which is it, of the favours of your Lord, that ye deny? 18 He has set two seas in motion that flow side by side together, 19 and yet there is a barrier between them which they may not overstep. 20 Which then of the bounties of your Lord will you deny? 21 From them come forth the pearl and the coral. 22 Which of the wonders of your Lord's power will you twain – you men and jinn – then deny? 23 And His are the lofty ships that sail like [floating] mountains through the seas. 24 Which of your Lord's wonders would you deny? 25
