The Night (Al-Layl)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
I swear by the night when it draws a veil, 1 and the day in splendour 2 Consider the creation of the male and the female! 3 Indeed your efforts differ. 4 Thus, as for him who gives [to others] and is conscious of God, 5 And (in all sincerity) testifies to the best,- 6 We shall surely ease him to the Easing. 7 But as for him who hoardeth and deemeth himself independent, 8 And rejects the best, 9 We shall facilitate the path to affliction 10 nor will his wealth profit him when he falls [into the pit]. 11 Surely it is for Us to show the Right Way, 12 And indeed the Hereafter and this world both belong to Us. 13 Therefore I have warned you of a Fire blazing fiercely (Hell); 14 None will [enter to] burn therein except the most wretched one. 15 Who gives the lie (to the truth) and turns (his) back. 16 And away from it shall be kept the one who guards most (against evil), 17 even he who gives his wealth. to purify himself 18 and owes no favour to anyone, which is to be repaid, 19 acting only for the sake of his Lord the Most High -- 20 And he shall soon be well-pleased. 21
