Dawn (Al-Fajr)
Allah - beginning with the name of - the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
By the dawn; 1 and the ten nights, 2 by the even, and the odd, 3 And [by] the night when it passes, 4 Is this not a sufficient oath for intelligent people? 5 Have you not seen what your Lord did to the 'Ad 6 (And) the tall giants of Iram? 7 The like of which were not produced in (all) the land? 8 And [with] Thamud, who carved out the rocks in the valley? 9 (Also consider the people of) the Pharaoh who victimized people by placing them on the stake, 10 Those who rebelled in the cities, 11 and worked much corruption therein? 12 So your Lord poured upon them a scourge of punishment. 13 Indeed nothing is hidden from the sight of your Lord. 14 BUT AS FOR man, whenever his Sustainer tries him by His generosity and by letting him enjoy a life of ease, he says, "My Sustainer has been [justly] generous towards me"; 15 But when He trieth him, restricting his subsistence for him, then saith he (in despair), "My Lord hath humiliated me!" 16 No! But you show no good to the orphan, 17 Nor do ye encourage one another to feed the poor!- 18 And you readily devour the inheritance with greed. 19 and you love wealth with boundless love! 20 Nay! When the earth is ground to powder, 21 And when the command of your Lord comes – and the angels row by row, 22 and Gehenna is brought out, upon that day man will remember; and how shall the Reminder be for him? 23 He will say: "Ah! Would that I had sent forth (good deeds) for (this) my (Future) Life!" 24 So on that day, no one punishes like He does! 25 And His bonds will be such as none (other) can bind. 26 Serene soul, 27 Return to your Lord well-pleased (with your blissful destination), well-pleasing (to your Lord). 28 Enter thou among My bondmen! 29 And come into My Paradise! 30
