The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
O THOU [in thy solitude] enfolded! 1 Arise and warn! 2 And your Lord do magnify, 3 thy robes purify 4 stay away from sins 5 and do not think that by doing such deeds, you have done a great favor to God. 6 And persevere in the way of your Lord. 7 When the Horn is blown, 8 that Day will be a hard and distressing Day. 9 Not easy upon the disbelievers. 10 Leave Me and him whom I created alone, 11 And to whom I granted extensive wealth 12 and sons to be by his side, 13 And made things easy for them. 14 After all that he desires that I should give more; 15 Never! For he is an enemy to Our signs! 16 I shall soon constrain him to a hard ascent. 17 Lo! He reflected, and determined -- 18 May he be accursed, how he planned! 19 Again, may he be cursed how he plotted; 20 Then he looked around, 21 and then he frowns and glares, 22 then he retreated, and waxed proud. 23 Then said he: "This is nothing but magic, derived from of old; 24 Nothing more than the speech of a man!" 25 I will cast him into the fire of Hell. 26 What do you think Hell-fire is? 27 It spares nothing; it leaves nothing intact; 28 it scorches the skin; 29 Above it are nineteen. 30 And We have set none but angels as Guardians of the Fire; and We have fixed their number only as a trial for Unbelievers,- in order that the People of the Book may arrive at certainty, and the Believers may increase in Faith,- and that no doubts may be left for the People of the Book and the Believers, and that those in whose hearts is a disease and the Unbelievers may say, "What symbol doth Allah intend by this?" Thus doth Allah leave to stray whom He pleaseth, and guide whom He pleaseth: and none can know the forces of thy Lord, except He and this is no other than a warning to mankind. 31
