a multitude of the ancients, 39 And a numerous company from among the last. 40 And the companions of the left - what are the companions of the left? 41 (They will be) in the midst of a Fierce Blast of Fire and in Boiling Water, 42 in the shadow of a smoking blaze, 43 neither cold nor graceful in shape. 44 Before they lived at ease, 45 And they persisted in the great violation. 46 And they used to say: When we are dead and have become dust and bones, shall we then, forsooth, be raised again, 47 And also our forefathers?" 48 Say (unto them, O Muhammad): Lo! those of old and those of later time 49 will be brought together for an appointment on an appointed day. 50 Then you people who had gone astray and rejected the Truth 51 shall all eat from the Tree of al-Zaqqum, 52 and fill your bellies with it, 53 And thereon ye will drink of boiling water, 54 lapping it down like thirsty camels.' 55 Such will be their welcome on Judgment Day! 56 We have created you, why do you not then assent? 57 Have you seen sperm? 58 Do you yourselves create it, or are We the Creators? 59 It is We Who ordained death upon you and We are not to be frustrated. 60 Had We so wished, nothing could have hindered Us from replacing you by others like yourselves, or transforming you into beings you know nothing about. 61 And indeed, you have already known the first form of creation (i.e. the creation of Adam), why then do you not remember or take heed? 62 Have you seen what you sow? 63 is it you that sow it, or are We the Sower? 64 Did We will, We would make it broken orts, and you would remain bitterly jesting -- 65 'We are debt-loaded; 66 Aye! we are deprived! 67 See ye the water which ye drink? 68 Is it you who brought it down from the clouds, or is it We who bring it down? 69 Did We will, We would make it bitter; so why are you not thankful? 70 Have you considered the fire which you strike? 71 Is it you that produce the trees for it, or are We the producers? 72 We! it is We Who made it a reminder and a provision unto the campers. 73 Glorify, then, (O Prophet), the name of your Great Lord. 74
