The Night (Al-Layl)
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
I swear by the night when it draws a veil, 1 And [by] the day when it appears 2 And Him who created the male and female, 3 Indeed your efforts differ. 4 As for one who gives [to others] and fears [God], 5 for those who spend for the cause of God, 6 We will indeed make smooth for him the path to Bliss. 7 But as for him who is a miser, and self-sufficient, 8 and he belied the finest 9 We shall facilitate for him the way to Hardship, 10 And what will his wealth avail him when he falls? 11 BEHOLD, it is indeed for Us to grace [you] with guidance; 12 And indeed, to Us belongs the Hereafter and the first [life]. 13 Therefore I warn you of the fire that flames: 14 None shall enter it save the most wretched, 15 Who denies and turns away. 16 But the righteous one will avoid it - 17 And gives of his wealth that he may grow in virtue, 18 And none hath with him any favour for reward, 19 But only seeking the countenance of his Lord, Most High. 20 And presently he shall become well pleased. 21
