Said he to the Council about him, 'Surely this man is a cunning sorcerer 34 He wants to expel you from your land through his magic. What is your opinion?" 35 They said: Put him off, (him) and his brother, and send into the cities summoners 36 Who will bring you every learned, skilled magician." 37 So the magicians were assembled at a stated time and place on an appointed day. 38 And it was said to the people: "Are you (too) going to assemble? 39 Belike we may follow the magicians if they are the winners? 40 Then when the magicians came, they said unto Fir'awn: will there surely be a big hire for us if we are the winners? 41 He replied, "Certainly, in that case you will join my inner circle." 42 Moses said to them: 'Cast down what you cast' 43 Thereupon they threw down their ropes and their rods, and said: "By the glory of Pharaoh, we shall prevail." 44 Then Moses threw down his staff, and it swallowed up all that they had conjured into being. 45 So the magicians fell down in prostration [to Allah]. 46 [and] exclaimed: "We have come to believe in the Sustainer of all the worlds, 47 The Lord of Moses and Aaron. 48 Said Firaun, “You accepted faith in him before I permitted you! He is indeed your leader who taught you magic; so now you will come to know; I swear, I will certainly cut off your hands and your feet from alternate sides, and crucify all of you.” 49 They said, "No harm. Indeed, to our Lord we will return. 50 "Only, our desire is that our Lord will forgive us our faults, that we may become foremost among the believers!" 51
