Said the eminent among the people of Pharaoh, "Indeed, this is a learned magician 109 who seeks to drive you from your land!" Pharaoh said, "What then do you advise?" 110 They said: "Keep him and his brother in suspense (for a while); and send to the cities men to collect- 111 To bring each knowing wizard unto thee. 112 And the magicians came to Firaun, and said, “Will we get some reward if we are victorious?” 113 The Pharaoh replied, "In addition to your rewards, you will become my close friends thereafter." 114 They said: "O Musa (Moses)! Either you throw (first), or shall we have the (first) throw?" 115 Said Moses: "Throw ye (first)." So when they threw, they bewitched the eyes of the people, and struck terror into them: for they showed a great (feat of) magic. 116 And We revealed to Moses: 'Cast thy staff!' And lo, it forthwith swallowed up their lying invention. 117 ۞ Thus the truth was upheld, and the falsehood that they practised was exposed. 118 So the (great ones) were vanquished there and then, and were made to look small. 119 threw themselves down in prostration 120 and said, "We believe in the Lord of the Universe, 121 "The Lord of Musa (Moses) and Harun (Aaron)." 122 But Pharaoh said: "You have come to accept belief in Him without my permission! This surely is a plot you have hatched to expel the people from the land. You will soon come to know. 123 I will surely cut off your hands and your feet on opposite sides; then I will surely crucify you all." 124 They said: "For us, We are but sent back unto our Lord: 125 You would punish us only because we believed in the signs of our Lord when they were shown to us. Our Lord, pour patience upon us, and cause us to die in a state of submission to You." 126
