The News (Al-Naba')
In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ OF WHAT ARE they asking one another? 1 About the great event, 2 That over which they are in disagreement. 3 Surely yes, they will soon come to know! 4 Surely, they will soon find out the truth! 5 Have We not made the earth an even expanse? 6 And the mountains as pegs? 7 And We created you in pairs, 8 And have appointed your sleep for repose, 9 and We appointed night for a garment, 10 And We have made the day for seeking livelihood. 11 And constructed above you seven strong [heavens] 12 And placed (therein) a Light of Splendour? 13 And have sent down from the rainy clouds abundant water. 14 That We may bring forth thereby grain and vegetation 15 And gardens of thick growth. 16 Lo! the Day of Decision is a fixed time, 17 the Day when the trumpet [of resurrection] is sounded and you all come forward in multitudes; 18 And the heaven shall be opened, and it will become as gates, 19 and the mountains are set in motion, and become a vapour. 20 Surely, Hell lies in wait, 21 For the transgressors a place of destination: 22 Where they will remain for aeons, 23 They shall not taste therein cool nor drink 24 except boiling water and pus 25 for a suitable recompense. 26 Indeed they had no fear of the account. 27 And they denied Our signs to the extreme. 28 and everything We have numbered in a Book. 29 (They will be told), "Suffer, We shall only increase the torment for you". 30
