Truly it is the revelation of the Lord of all Being, 192 brought down by the Faithful Spirit 193 Upon your heart, for you to convey warning. 194 In a clear Arabic language. 195 And most surely the same is in the scriptures of the ancients. 196 And was this not a sign for them, that the scholars of the Descendants of Israel may recognise this Prophet? 197 And had We revealed it unto any of the non-Arabs, 198 And he had read it unto them, they would not have believed in it. 199 Thus do We make it traverse the hearts of the guilty. 200 They will not believe in it until they see the painful punishment. 201 And it shall come to them all of a sudden, while they shall not perceive; 202 Then they will exclaim, "Could we have some respite?" 203 Do they wish Us then to hasten the punishment? 204 Just think: If We let them enjoy (the good things of life) for a few years more, 205 and then the promised punishment fell upon them, 206 That which they were made to enjoy shall not avail them? 207 We never destroyed any town without first sending to them warning and guidance. 208 To advise; and We never oppress. 209 It was not the devils who brought down the Quran: 210 it is not for them, nor are they able. 211 Indeed they have been removed far from even (a chance of) hearing it. 212 Hence, [O man,] do not invoke any other deity side by side with God, lest thou find thyself among those who are made to suffer [on Judgment Day]. 213 Warn your tribe and your near kinsmen. 214 And lower thy wing to the Believers who follow thee. 215 And if they (thy kinsfolk) disobey thee, say: Lo! I am innocent of what they do. 216 And put your trust in the All-Mighty, the Most Merciful, 217 Who seeth thee standing forth (in prayer), 218 And thy movements among those who prostrate themselves, 219 For it is He Who heareth and knoweth all things. 220 Shall I inform you upon whom the devils descend? 221 They descend on every forgerer steeped in sin, 222 who readily lend ear [to every falsehood,] and most of whom lie to others as well. 223 As for poets, only the wayward follow them. 224 Did you not see that they keep wandering in every valley? 225 And they speak what they do not do? 226 Except those who believe and do good and remember Allah much, and defend themselves after they are oppressed; and they who act unjustly shall know to what final place of turning they shall turn back. 227
