And when thy Lord called to Moses, 'Go to the people of the evildoers, 10 The people of Firon: Will they not guard (against evil)? 11 'My Lord' he replied, 'I fear they will belie me 12 And that my breast will tighten and my tongue will not be fluent, so send for Aaron. 13 And they have a crime against me, therefore I fear that they may slay me. 14 [Allah] said, "No. Go both of you with Our signs; indeed, We are with you, listening. 15 Go, then, to Pharaoh and say to him: 'The Lord of the Universe has sent us 16 (Saying): Let the Children of Israel go with us. 17 Fir'awn said: brought we not thee up amongst us as a child? And thou tarriedst amongst us for many years of thy life? 18 And [then] you did your deed which you did, and you were of the ungrateful." 19 Musa (Moses) said: "I did it then, when I was an ignorant (as regards my Lord and His Message). 20 "So I fled from you when I feared you. But my Lord has granted me Hukman (i.e. religious knowledge, right judgement of the affairs and Prophethood), and appointed me as one of the Messengers. 21 That is a blessing thou reproachest me with, having enslaved the Children of Israel.' 22 The Pharaoh asked, "Who is the Lord of the Universe?" 23 He said: The Lord of the heavens and the earth and what is between them, if you would be sure. 24 Said Firaun to those around him, “Are you not listening with attention?” 25 He said: your Lord and the Lord of your ancient fathers. 26 Pharaoh said, "This messenger who has been sent to you is surely possessed!" 27 [But Moses] went on: "[He of whom I speak is] the Sustainer of the east and the west and of all that is between the two - as you would know]" if you would but use your reason!" 28 Pharaoh said, "If you put forward any god other than me, I will surely put you in prison". 29 Musa (Moses) said: "Even if I bring you something manifest (and convincing)?" 30 He (Pharaoh) replied: 'Show us your sign, if you are of the truthful' 31 So he cast down his rod, and lo! it was an obvious serpent, 32 And he drew out his hand, and it appeared [shining] white to the beholders. 33
