The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
O YOU ENFOLDED in your mantle (of reform), 1 Arise and warn, 2 Thy Lord magnify, 3 and purify your robes, 4 And pollution shun. 5 And give not a thing in order to have more (or consider not your deeds of Allah's obedience as a favour to Allah). 6 And be patient for the sake of your Lord (i.e. perform your duty to Allah)! 7 Then when the horn shall be blown, 8 it will be a hard day 9 For the disbelievers - not easy. 10 Leave him to Me whom I created alone, 11 and designated for him ample wealth, 12 and sons to be by his side, 13 And made things easy for them. 14 then he is eager that I should do more. 15 By no means; he is stubbornly opposed to Our Signs. 16 I shall inflict on him hardship, 17 For he had thought and calculated. 18 death seize him, how he determined! 19 Again (self-)destroyed is he, how he planned! - 20 and then he looks [around for new arguments,] 21 and then he frowns and glares, 22 then turned back, and swelling-up with pride, 23 Then he said: "This is nothing but magic from that of old; 24 'this is nothing but mortal speech.' 25 Soon I will cast him into hell. 26 And what could make thee conceive what hell-fire is? 27 It does not allow to live, and neither leaves [to die,] 28 It shrivelleth the man. 29 there are nineteen [angels] in charge of it -- 30 And We have appointed none but the angels to be wardens of the Fire. And their number we have made only a trial for those who disbelieve, so that those who are vouchsafed the Book may be convinced, and that those who believe may increase in faith, and that those who are vouchsafed the Book and the believers may not doubt, and that those in whose hearts is a disease and the infidels may say: what meaneth Allah by this description! In this wise Allah sendeth astray whomsoever He will, and guideth whomsoever He will. And none knoweth the hosts of thy Lord but He. And it is naught but an admonition unto man. 31
