'Ad (people) belied the Messengers. 123 When their brother Hud said to them, "Will you not fear Allah? 124 I am for you an honest Messenger. 125 Therefore guard against (the punishment of) Allah and obey me: 126 I ask no recompense of you; my reward is only with the Lord of the Universe. 127 "Do you build high palaces on every high place, while you do not live in them? 128 And do you take to yourselves underground reservoirs, in order to live for ever! 129 and when you strike you strike like tyrants? 130 "So fear Allah, keep your duty to Him, and obey me. 131 Have fear of Him Who has provided you with all the (good) things you know; 132 "He has aided you with cattle and children. 133 gardens and fountains. 134 "Truly I fear for you the Penalty of a Great Day." 135 They said, "It is all the same to us whether you advise or are not of the advisors. 136 your preaching is nothing but ancient legends and we shall not face any torment". 137 and we are not going to be chastised [for adhering to it]!" 138 So they gave him the lie, then We destroyed them. Most surely there is a sign in this, but most of them do not believe. 139 And indeed, your Lord - He is the Exalted in Might, the Merciful. 140
