Tell them the story of Abraham, 69 When he said to his father and his people: What do you worship? 70 They replied: "We worship idols and are devoted to them." 71 He said: Do they hear you when ye cry? 72 "Or do they benefit you or do they harm (you)?" 73 They exclaimed: But we found our forefathers doing the same!" 74 He said: 'Have you considered what you worship, 75 you, and your elderly fathers? 76 They are all enemies to me; all, except the Lord of the Universe 77 Who hath created me, and He guideth me. 78 and Himself gives me to eat and drink, 79 and, whenever I am sick, heals me, 80 and who will cause me to die and then will bring me back to life 81 and whom I am eager shall forgive me my sins on the Day of Recompense' 82 My Lord, give me Judgment, and join me with the righteous, 83 “And give me proper fame among the succeeding generations.” 84 Make me inherit the bountiful Paradise. 85 And forgive my father, verily he is of the erring; 86 And do not disgrace me on the Day they are [all] resurrected - 87 The day when neither wealth nor children will be of any avail 88 but only he that brings to Allah a sound heart will (attain to success)." 89 And the garden shall be brought near for those who guard (against evil), 90 And hell will appear plainly to the erring. 91 And it will be said to them: "Where are those (the false gods whom you used to set up as rivals with Allah) that you used to worship 92 Other than God? Can they save you or even save themselves?" 93 So they will be overturned into Hellfire, they and the deviators 94 And the soldiers of Iblees, all together. 95 "They will say there in their mutual bickerings: 96 'By Allah, we were certainly in clear error, 97 In equating you with the Lord of all the worlds; 98 yet they who have seduced us [into believing in you] are the truly guilty ones! 99 "'Now, then, we have none to intercede (for us), 100 and no sincere friend. 101 Would that we might return again, and be among the believers' 102 Lo! herein is indeed a portent, yet most of them are not believers! 103 Verily your Lord is mighty and merciful. 104
