The Heights (Al-Ma'aarej)
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
AN INQUIRER ASKED for the affliction that is to come 1 Upon the disbelievers, which none can repel, 2 From Allah, the Lord of the ways of ascent. 3 (Whereby) the angels and the Spirit ascend unto Him in a Day whereof the span is fifty thousand years. 4 Therefore be patient, with a beautiful patience; 5 They see the (Day) indeed as a far-off (event): 6 While we behold it nigh: 7 On the day when the heavens become like molten metal. 8 and the mountains will become like dyed tufts of wool, 9 And friend shall not ask of friend 10 as they are given sight of them. The sinner will wish that he might ransom himself from the chastisement of that day even by his sons, 11 and his spouse and his brother, 12 and his kinsfolk who had stood by him, 13 And all those who are on the earth, to save himself. 14 But no! There is a raging blaze 15 Eager to roast; 16 It shall call him who turneth back and backslideth. 17 and amassed wealth and hoarded it. 18 ۞ Surely man was created fretful, 19 when evil visits him, impatient, 20 And when good toucheth him he is begrudging. 21 Except those devoted to Salat (prayers) 22 Who are at their prayer constant. 23 who, from their wealth is a known right 24 For the petitioner and the deprived - 25 who confirm the Day of Doom 26 And those who fear the displeasure of their Lord,- 27 Indeed the punishment of their Lord is not a thing to be unafraid of! 28 And those who guard their chastity, 29 Except with their wives and the (captives) whom their right hands possess,- for (then) they are not to be blamed, 30 But those who seek more than this will be transgressors; 31 and those who fulfil their trusts and their covenants, 32 and standby their witnessing, 33 and who are constant in their prayers. 34 Such will be the honoured ones in the Gardens (of Bliss). 35
