۞ Before this We gave Abraham his guidance. We knew him well. 51 Recall what time he said unto his father and his people: what are these images to which ye are cleaving? 52 They said:"We found our fathers worshipping them." 53 He said, 'Then assuredly you and your fathers have been in manifest error.' 54 They said: Bringest thou unto us the truth, or art thou some jester? 55 He answered: "Nay, but your [true] Sustainer is the Sustainer of the heavens and the earth - He who has brought them into being: and I am one of those who bear witness to this [truth]!" 56 And by Allah I shall surely devise a plot against your idols after ye turned away backward. 57 So he smashed them up to pieces with the exception of the biggest, so that they may turn to it. 58 [When they saw what had happened,] they said: "Who has done this to our gods? Verily, one of the worst wrongdoers is he!" 59 They said, "We heard a youth talk of them: He is called Abraham." 60 They said: 'Then bring him here so that the people may see, so that they may bear witness' 61 They said: "Are you the one who has done this to our gods, O Ibrahim (Abraham)?" 62 He said: Surely (some doer) has done it; the chief of them is this, therefore ask them, if they can speak. 63 They then turned to themselves, and said: verily ye it is who are the wrong-doers. 64 Thereafter they were made to turn over upon their heads, saying, assuredly thou knowest that they speak not. 65 Abraham said, "So, do you worship something instead of God that can neither benefit you nor harm you? 66 Fie upon you and upon all that you worship beside Allah. Do you have no sense?" 67 They said, "Burn him and support your gods - if you are to act." 68 But We said, "Fire! Be cool and a means of safety for Abraham." 69 They had sought to do him harm, but We frustrated them. 70 and We saved him and Lot and brought him to the land upon which We had bestowed Our blessings for all the people of the world. 71 And We bestowed on him Isaac and, as an additional gift, (a grandson), Jacob, and We made righteous men of every one (of them). 72 And We made them leaders to guide (the people) by Our command; and We inspired them to perform good deeds and observe their moral obligations and pay the zakat; and they obeyed Us. 73 AND UNTO Lot, too, We vouchsafed sound judgment and knowledge [of right and wrong,] and saved him from that community which was given to deeds of abomination. [We destroyed those people - for,] verily, they were people lost in evil, depraved 74 We encompassed him in Our mercy; he was a righteous man. 75
