Ad cried lies to the Envoys 123 Their brother Hud said to them, "Will you not fear God? 124 I am a trustworthy messenger for you: 125 So fear God and listen to me. 126 I ask no recompense of you; my reward is only with the Lord of the Universe. 127 Do you build on every height a monument? Vain is it that you do: 128 and erect huge palaces as though you will live for ever, 129 And if ye seize by force, seize ye as tyrants? 130 So fear Allah, and obey me. 131 Have fear of Him Who has provided you with all the (good) things you know; 132 succoured you with flocks and sons, 133 “And with gardens and water-springs.” 134 “Indeed I fear upon you the punishment of a Great Day.” 135 They said: "It is the same to us if you warn us or do not warn. 136 This [religion of ours] is none other than that to which our forebears clung, 137 And we are not to be punished." 138 And so they gave him the lie: and thereupon We destroyed them. In this [story,] behold, there is a message [unto men,] even though most of them will not believe [in it]. 139 And verily! Your Lord, He is indeed the All-Mighty, the Most Merciful. 140
