And whatsoever of affliction befalleth you is owing to that which your hands have earned; and He pardoneth much. 30 Ye cannot escape in the earth, for beside Allah ye have no protecting friend nor any helper. 31 Ships sailing in the ocean like ensigns are a sign of His. 32 if He will, He calms the wind so that they remain motionless upon its back, surely, there are signs in this for every thankful, patient (person). 33 or He could have destroyed them as punishment for the human being's deeds. However, God pardons many sins. 34 Then those who wrangle about Our Signs will come to know that there is no escape for them. 35 Whatever ye are given (here) is (but) a convenience of this life: but that which is with Allah is better and more lasting: (it is) for those who believe and put their trust in their Lord: 36 who eschew grave sins and shameful deeds, and whenever they are angry, forgive; 37 And those who respond to their Lord and keep up prayer, and their rule is to take counsel among themselves, and who spend out of what We have given them. 38 and who, whenever tyranny afflicts them, defend themselves. 39 And the recompense of evil is punishment like it, but whoever forgives and amends, he shall have his reward from Allah; surely He does not love the unjust. 40 But indeed if any do help and defend themselves after a wrong (done) to them, against such there is no cause of blame. 41 The way (of blame) is only against those who oppress mankind, and wrongfully rebel in the earth. For such there is a painful doom. 42 But withal, if one is patient in adversity and forgives - this, behold, is indeed something to set one's heart upon! 43
