Smoke (Al-Dukhaan)
In the name of God, The Most Gracious, The Dispenser of Grace
HaMeem 1 By the Book that makes things clear; 2 (That) We sent it down one night of blessing -- so that We could warn -- 3 Therein is decreed every affair of wisdom 4 by Our command. Verily, We were set to send a Messenger 5 (As) a Mercy from your Lord. Verily! He is the All-Hearer, the All-Knower. 6 The Lord of the heavens and the earth and all that is between them, if you (but) have a faith with certainty. 7 There is no worship except for Him – He gives life and causes death; your Lord and the Lord of your forefathers. 8 Nay! They play in doubt. 9 Then wait you for the Day when the sky will bring forth a visible smoke. 10 That will envelop the people. This will be a painful punishment. 11 (People will then say): “Our Lord, remove this scourge from us; we shall believe.” 12 How will there be for them a reminder [at that time]? And there had come to them a clear Messenger. 13 And they had turned away from him and said: One taught (by others), a madman? 14 'Behold, We are removing the chastisement a little; behold, you revert!' 15 The Day when We shall seize them with a mighty seizing, that will be the Day on which We shall inflict upon you full retribution. 16 ۞ We had tried the people of Pharaoh before them. A respected prophet had come to them (saying): 17 Saying: Deliver to me the servants of Allah, surely I am a faithful apostle to you, 18 Do not rise up against Allah, I come to you with clear authority. 19 And indeed, I have sought refuge in my Lord and your Lord, lest you stone me. 20 If you do not believe in me, leave me alone." 21 (But they were aggressive), so he [Musa (Moses)] called upon his Lord (saying): "These are indeed the people who are Mujrimun (disbelievers, polytheists, sinners, criminals, etc.)." 22 We commanded him, “Journey with My bondmen in a part of the night – you will be pursued.” 23 And leave the sea behind you as calm as ever. Surely they are an army that is doomed to be drowned.” 24 They left how many gardens and fountains, 25 And fields and stately mansions, 26 And comforts of life wherein they used to take delight! 27 Even so; and We caused to inherit them another people. 28 and neither sky nor earth shed tears over them, nor were they allowed a respite. 29
