Al-Dukhaan 2 of 3
We did deliver aforetime the Children of Israel from humiliating Punishment, 30 at the hands of Pharaoh: he was a tyrant who exceeded all bounds. 31 And We exalted them over the other people knowingly, 32 and gave them such signs [of Our grace] as would clearly presage a test. 33 Indeed, these [disbelievers] are saying, 34 'There is nothing but our first death; we shall not be revived. 35 Then bring [back] our forefathers, if you should be truthful." 36 Are they better than the people of Tubba' and those who came before them? We destroyed them, because they were guilty of sin. 37 We did not idly create the heavens and the earth and all that lies between them; 38 We created them not save with truth; but most of them know not. 39 Truly, the Day of Decision is the appointed time for all of them, 40 The Day when no protector can avail his client in aught, and no help can they receive, 41 Save those on whom Allah will have mercy. Verily He! He is the Mighty, the Merciful. 42

How does the memorization exercise algorithm work? At the lowest level 0, all words are visible. While the highest level 9 hides all words. What about at mid-level, like 3, for example? You might think that the algorithm hides precisely 3 out of every nine words. Not quite! At level 3, each word has a 3 out of 9 chance to hide, and 6 out of 9 to be visible. In other words, it is possible, but highly unlikely, for all words at level 3 to be hidden, or, that all of them to be visible! Also, at mid-levels, and in proportion to the difficulty level, hideouts can be partially incomplete or transparent so that words may be partially visible underneath.
