The Stars (Al-Najm)
In the name of God, The Most Gracious, The Dispenser of Grace
By the Star when it setteth, 1 Your companion hath not gone astray, nor hath he erred. 2 nor does he speak out of desire. 3 It is but a divine revelation, which is revealed to him. 4 something that a very mighty one has imparted to him: 5 The Strong; then the Spectacle inclined towards him. 6 When he was on the uppermost horizon. 7 Then he approached and came closer, 8 And was at a distance of two bow lengths or nearer. 9 He revealed to God's servant whatever he wanted. 10 His heart did not lie of what he saw. 11 Will you dispute with him what he saw? 12 And verily he saw him yet another time 13 at the Lote Tree (Sidrat tree) of the ending 14 Near it is the Garden of Refuge - 15 When the Lote-tree was covered over with what it was covered over; 16 The eye turned not aside nor yet was overbold. 17 truly did he see some of the most profound of his Sustainer's symbols. 18 Have ye thought upon Al-Lat and Al-'Uzza 19 And Manat the other third? 20 "What! For you the males and for Him the females?" 21 Then that is surely a very unjust distribution! 22 They are but names which ye have named, ye and your fathers, for which Allah hath revealed no warrant. They follow but a guess and that which (they) themselves desire. And now the guidance from their Lord hath come unto them. 23 Can the human being have whatever he wishes? 24 despite the fact that [both] the life to come and this present [one] belong to God [alone]? 25
