The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
۞ When the forthcoming event does occur. 1 (and none denies its descending) 2 (a calamitous Event) that shall turn things upside down: 3 When the earth is shaken with a shaking [severe,] 4 And the mountains shall be crumbled to atoms, 5 So that they will become floating dust particles. 6 And you become [of] three kinds: 7 Thus, there shall be such as will have attained to what is right: oh, how [happy] will be they who have attained to what is right! 8 And (then) those on the left hand; what of those on the left hand? 9 The third to the fore shall be the foremost. 10 (The foremost ones) will be the nearest ones to God 11 In gardens of bliss [will they dwell] 12 A multitude of those of old 13 And a few of later ages, 14 On lined couches, 15 Reclining thereon facing each other. 16 Surrounded by immortal boys. 17 Carrying bowls and pitchers – and cups filled with wine flowing before them. 18 by which their minds will not be clouded and which will not make them drunk; 19 And fruit; that they may choose. 20 And flesh of fowls that they desire. 21 and there shall be wide-eyed maidens, 22 The likenesses of pearls well-protected, 23 as reward for their deeds. 24 They will hear no nonsense there or talk of sin, 25 All talk will be sound and upright. 26 The companions of the right - what are the companions of the right? 27 Among thorn-less lote-trees. 28 And banana-trees (with fruits), one above another. 29 and amid the extended shade 30 And in perpetually flowing water. 31 And fruit in plenty 32 Whose season is not limited, and their supply will not be cut off, 33 And raised couches. 34 and their spouses We shall have brought them into being afresh, 35 And have made them virgins. 36 Devoted [to their husbands] and of equal age, 37 like of age for the Companions of the Right. 38
