۞ Before this We gave Abraham his guidance. We knew him well. 51 When he said to his father and his people: "What are these idols to which you cling so passionately?" 52 They replied: "We found our fathers worshipping them." 53 He said, 'Then assuredly you and your fathers have been in manifest error.' 54 They said, 'What, hast thou come to us with the truth, or art thou one of those that play?' 55 He said: Aye! your Lord is the Lord of the heavens and the earth Who created them, and as to that I am of the witnesses. 56 And [I swear] by Allah, I will surely plan against your idols after you have turned and gone away." 57 He broke all the idols into pieces, except the biggest among them so that perhaps people would refer to it. 58 They asked (on return): "Who has done this to our gods? He is surely a mischief-monger." 59 'We have heard a young man called Abraham mention them' they replied. 60 The others said: "Bring him, then, before the eyes of the people that they may see (what will be done to him)." 61 They said, "Abraham, was it you who did this to our deities?" 62 He said: Surely (some doer) has done it; the chief of them is this, therefore ask them, if they can speak. 63 They then turned to themselves, and said: verily ye it is who are the wrong-doers. 64 And they were utterly confounded, and they said: Well thou knowest that these speak not. 65 He said: worship ye, then, beside Allah, that which profiteth you not at all, nor it hurteth you? 66 "Fie upon you, and upon that which you worship besides Allah! Have you then no sense?" 67 They said: Burn him and help your gods, if you are going to do (anything). 68 We (Allah) said: "O fire! Be you coolness and safety for Ibrahim (Abraham)!" 69 And they desired a war on him, but We made them the greatest losers. 70 and We saved him and Lot and brought him to the land upon which We had bestowed Our blessings for all the people of the world. 71 And We bestowed upon him Isaac, and Jacob as a grandson. Each of them We made righteous. 72 And We made them Imams who guided (people) by Our command, and We revealed to them the doing of good and the keeping up of prayer and the giving of the alms, and Us (alone) did they serve; 73 To Lot We gave wisdom and knowledge and delivered him from the city which practiced abomination. They were indeed a wicked people. 74 We encompassed him in Our mercy; he was a righteous man. 75
