Smoke (Al-Dukhaan)
Allah - beginning with the name of - the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
Ha. Mim. 1 By oath of this clear Book. 2 surely We sent it down on a blessed night, We have always sent warnings, 3 During it are distributed all the works of wisdom. 4 By command, from Our Presence. For We (ever) send (revelations), 5 A Mercy from your Lord, He is the Hearer, the Knower. 6 The Lord of the heavens and the earth and all that is between them; if you people believe. 7 There is no deity save Him: He grants life and deals death: He is your Sustainer as well as the Sustainer of your forebears of old. 8 Nay, but they play in doubt. 9 Watch for the Day when the heaven will bring clear smoke, 10 Covering the people, this shall be a torment afflictive. 11 Thereupon they will say, “O our Lord! Remove the punishment from us – we now accept faith.” 12 But how will they take heed? Such are they that a Messenger came to them clearly expounding the Truth, 13 yet they turned away from him and said: “This is a well-tutored madman.” 14 Yet We will hold the scourge back for a while, (but no sooner than We will do so) you will revert to your old ways. 15 on the Day when We shall seize [all sinners] with a most mighty onslaught, We shall, verily, inflict Our retribution [on you as well]! 16 ۞ And certainly We tried before them the people of Firon, and there came to them a noble apostle, 17 (and said): “Deliver to me Allah's servants. I am a trustworthy Messenger to you, 18 "And be not arrogant as against Allah: for I come to you with authority manifest. 19 And lo! I have sought refuge in my Lord and your Lord lest ye stone me to death. 20 And if you do not believe me, then leave me' 21 And he called to his Lord, saying, 'These are a sinful people.' 22 "Journey by night with My devotees," (it was said); "you will certainly be pursued. 23 Leave the sea behind you parted; they are a host destined to be drowned." 24 How many of the gardens and fountains have they left! 25 And the cornlands and the goodly sites 26 And goodly things wherein they rejoiced; 27 That is what We did; and We made another nation their heirs. 28 So the heavens and the earth did not weep for them, and they were not given respite. 29
