۞ [The angels will be ordered], "Gather those who committed wrong, their kinds, and what they used to worship 22 apart from God, and guide them unto the path of Hell! 23 and detain them there; they will be called to account. 24 'Why do you not help one another? 25 Nay, but this day they make full submission. 26 And they will approach one another blaming each other. 27 saying: 'You used to come to us from the right hand' 28 They will reply: "Nay, ye yourselves had no Faith! 29 "Nor had we any authority over you. Nay, it was ye who were a people in obstinate rebellion! 30 So the sentence of our Lord has come to pass against us: (now) we shall surely taste; 31 And we led you to deviation; indeed, we were deviators." 32 Then lo! this day they (both) are sharers in the doom. 33 Even so We do with the sinners; 34 They were the ones, who on being told, "God is only One," become puffed-up with pride 35 and said: 'Are we to renounce our gods for the sake of a mad poet' 36 Aye! he hath come with the truth, and he confesseth to the sent ones. 37 Now certainly you shall be tasting the painful chastisement, 38 But it will be no more than the retribution of (the Evil) that ye have wrought;- 39 But not the chosen servants of Allah. 40 For them there will be a known provision (in Paradise). 41 a variety of delicious fruits; and they shall be honoured 42 in the Gardens of Delight, 43 upon couches, set face to face, 44 a cup filled with wine from its springs, will be passed around to them; 45 White, delicious to the drinkers, 46 but not harmful or intoxicating. 47 and with them wide-eyed maidens restraining their glances 48 as if they were hidden pearls. 49 Then they will turn to one another and question one another. 50 Said one of the speakers: "I had a friend 51 who was wont to ask [me,] 'Why - art thou really one of those who believe it to be true 52 ‘That when we are dead and have turned into dust and bones, that we will either be rewarded or punished?’ 53 Allah will say: will ye look down? 54 He therefore looked down and saw him amidst the blazing fire. 55 He said, “By Allah, you had nearly ruined me!” 56 But for Allah's favour, I should be one of those who have been mustered here. 57 “So are we never to die?” (The people of Paradise will ask the angels, with delight, after the announcement of everlasting life.) 58 except our first death, and shall we not be punished' 59 Most surely this is the mighty achievement. 60 For the like of this let the workers [on earth] work. 61 Is that the better entertainment or the Tree of Zaqqum? 62 Surely We have made it to be a trial to the unjust. 63 Verily, it is a tree that springs out of the bottom of Hell-fire, 64 its fruit [as repulsive] as satans' heads; 65 And lo! they verily must eat thereof, and fill (their) bellies therewith. 66 Then most surely they shall have after it to drink of a mixture prepared in boiling water. 67 They can only return to hell. 68 Indeed they found their fathers astray. 69 So they in their footsteps are rushing. 70 And truly before them, many of the ancients went astray;- 71 We had certainly sent warners to them. 72 Therefore see what sort of fate befell those who were warned! 73 except for God's sincere servants. 74
