The Stars (Al-Najm)
In the Name of Allah, the Merciful, the Most Merciful
I swear by the star when it goes down. 1 Your companion hath not gone astray, nor hath he erred. 2 nor does he speak out of his own desire. 3 It is naught but revelation that is revealed, 4 He was taught by one Mighty in Power, 5 One vigorous; and he grew clear to view 6 While he [Jibrael (Gabriel)] was in the highest part of the horizon, 7 then he drew near, and became close 8 two bows' length away, or nearer, 9 Then he revealed to Allah's servant whatever he had to reveal. 10 The (Prophet's) heart lied not (in seeing) what he (Muhammad SAW) saw. 11 So will you dispute with him over what he saw? 12 And certainly he saw him in another descent, 13 by the lote tree beyond which none may pass 14 Near it is the Garden of Refuge - 15 When that which shroudeth did enshroud the lote-tree, 16 The sight [of the Prophet] did not swerve, nor did it transgress [its limit]. 17 For truly did he see, of the Signs of his Lord, the Greatest! 18 Have you really considered al-Lat and al-"Uzza, 19 And subsequently the third, the Manat? 20 Are yours the males and His the females? 21 That indeed were an unfair division! 22 They are but names, named by you and your fathers. Allah has not sent down any authority for them. They follow conjecture and their soul's desire, eventhough the guidance of their Lord has come to them. 23 Or shall man have what he coveteth? 24 To Allah belongs the Eternal life and the first life. 25
