Smoke (Al-Dukhaan)
In the name of God, The Most Gracious, The Dispenser of Grace
Ha Mim! 1 By the Clear Book. 2 We have indeed sent it down in a blessed night – indeed it is We Who warn. 3 In it every wise matter is determined 4 As a command from before Us. Verily We were to become senders: 5 as a mercy (for the human being) from your Lord. Your Lord is All-hearing and All-knowing. 6 Lord of the heavens and earth, and all that between them is if you have faith. 7 There is no god other than He, who gives you life and death, your Lord and the Lord of your fathers of old. 8 Nay, but they play in doubt. 9 Then watch for the Day when the sky will bring a visible smoke. 10 covering the people; this is a painful chastisement. 11 (People will then say): “Our Lord, remove this scourge from us; we shall believe.” 12 How can there be for them an admonition (at the time when the torment has reached them), when a Messenger explaining things clearly has already come to them. 13 Then they turned away from him and said, "He is a madman, taught by others!" 14 We are removing the punishment a little, but you revert. 15 Upon the day when We shall assault most mightily, then We shall take Our vengeance. 16 ۞ Already before them We tried the people of Pharaoh, and a noble Messenger came unto them, 17 Saying: "Restore to me the Servants of Allah: I am to you an messenger worthy of all trust; 18 And that do not exalt yourselves against Allah, surely I will bring to you a clear authority: 19 And surely I take refuge with my Lord and your Lord that you should stone me to death: 20 And if ye will not believe in me, then let me alone. 21 Moses addressed his Lord, saying, "Lord, these people are sinners". 22 God said, "Set out with My servants by night, for you will certainly be pursued. 23 And leave the sea behind you as calm as ever. Surely they are an army that is doomed to be drowned.” 24 How many gardens and water-springs they left behind! 25 and sown fields, fine sitting places, 26 And the delights which they had been enjoying! 27 That is what We did; and We made another nation their heirs. 28 and neither sky nor earth shed tears over them, nor were they allowed a respite. 29
