The Heights (Al-Ma'aarej)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
There hath asked an asker for the torment about to befall. 1 the unbelievers which none can prevent. 2 From Allah, the Lord of all pinnacles. 3 The angels and Jibreel, ascend towards Him – the punishment will befall on a day which spans fifty thousand years. 4 Therefore, [O believer,] endure all adversity with goodly patience: 5 behold, they see it as if far off; 6 but, We see it as near! 7 The day when the sky will be like molten silver. 8 And the mountains will be like wool, 9 And no friend will ask concerning his friend. 10 They will be seeing them; the guilty will wish if only he could redeem himself from the punishment of that day, by offering his sons. 11 His wife and his brother, 12 and his kinsfolk who gave him shelter, 13 and of whoever [else] lives on earth, all of them - so that he could but save himself. 14 By no means! Verily it is a Flame. 15 tearing away his skin! 16 Inviting (all) such as turn their backs and turn away their faces (from the Right). 17 and amassed wealth and covetously hoarded it. 18 ۞ Lo! man was created anxious, 19 Very nervous when touched by misfortune. 20 and tight-fisted when good fortune visits him, 21 save those that pray 22 Those who are constant in their prayer 23 those in whose wealth is a right known 24 to those who ask [for help] and to the destitute; 25 And those who hold to the truth of the Day of Judgment; 26 who are afraid of the torment of their Lord, 27 for, behold, of their Sustainer's chastisement none may ever feel [wholly] secure; 28 And those who guard their sex except from their wives and women slaves of old 29 Except with their wives and the bondwomen in their possession, for there is no reproach on them. 30 But whosoever seeks beyond that, then it is those who are trespassers. 31 and who are faithful to their trusts and to their pledges: 32 And those who are firm upon their testimonies. 33 And those who protect their prayers. 34 Those shall be in gardens, honored. 35
