The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
O thou enveloped in thy cloak, 1 stand up, deliver your warning, 2 And proclaim the Purity of your Lord. 3 And thy garments keep free from stain! 4 and defilement flee! 5 Nor expect, in giving, any increase (for thyself)! 6 And be patient for the sake of your Lord (i.e. perform your duty to Allah)! 7 Then, when the Trumpet is sounded (i.e. its second blowing); 8 that shall be a Harsh Day 9 Not of ease, for disbelievers. 10 Leave Me and him whom I created alone, 11 and designated for him ample wealth, 12 and sons standing before him, 13 and whom I have provided with every resource, 14 And who yet coveteth that shall increase. 15 Nay! Verily, he has been stubborn and opposing Our Ayat (proofs, evidences, verses, lessons, signs, revelations, etc.). 16 I shall force him to endure a painful uphill climb! 17 Surely he reflected and guessed, 18 and thus he destroys himself, the way he meditates: 19 And once more let him be cursed, how he plotted! 20 Then he thought; 21 Then he frowned and he scowled; 22 Then he turned back and was haughty; 23 Then he said: naught is this but magic from of old; 24 This is not but the word of a human being." 25 Him shall I soon roast in Hell. 26 - Ah, what will convey unto thee what that burning is! - 27 It neither leaves, nor spares. 28 Burning the skins! 29 Above it are nineteen. 30 And We have appointed none but the angels to be wardens of the Fire. And their number we have made only a trial for those who disbelieve, so that those who are vouchsafed the Book may be convinced, and that those who believe may increase in faith, and that those who are vouchsafed the Book and the believers may not doubt, and that those in whose hearts is a disease and the infidels may say: what meaneth Allah by this description! In this wise Allah sendeth astray whomsoever He will, and guideth whomsoever He will. And none knoweth the hosts of thy Lord but He. And it is naught but an admonition unto man. 31
